Frustration at first sight…

I remember the first time I looked at you
and thought, “dang, his eyes are blue!”
as you sat, constantly checking your watch,
i assumed there must have been some girl too…

But moments turned to minutes,
& finally I found the nerve to break my trance
asked what time it was & ‘oh that early?
well in that case… would you like to dance?’

from you’re off rhythm dance moves,
to a walk in downtown DC,
from an off-season beach visit,
to our road-trip to Raleigh…

You are the only boy from moment one
I looked at & was captivated
I’ve spent years trying to break the spell
still feeling the pulls of enchantment

Oh release me, or come back into my life.
i thought it would go away, but I’m starting to realize

that it doesn’t really matter,
what i would like my heart to feel,
it’s already chosen you, you know…
no matter what or how my mind wills…
indeed, in you i found, frustration at first sight

The link among mankind: eternity waits

We’ve all been broken in some form
And yet, all built, along the way
We all have many sins & regrets to date
And we all are still alive enough to change

I don’t care to where you go, or whence you’re from
You are the epitome of creation perfected & loved,
You are human, forgive yourself, forgive humanity,
Embrace your life, embrace your God given strength

Then fill your days with faith
in the wisdom of all that you don’t know…
Life is too short for regrets and hatred & guilt,
Let it go, move on, be human, & learn to rebuild.

Nothing lasts forever
Save the soul & heart of faith.
save the gentle acceptance of burden,
eternally rewarded, eternally saved…

 

I am human and ALL that means…

I am human
The greatest thing that one can be
I am human,
Along with all the traits of humanity

I am human
Full of faith, hope, love, & jealousy
I am human
And there’s nothing else I’d rather be

Say I’m sorry all the time,
with a brocken-hearted hope in life…
It ain’t the end if it ain’t right,
There’s always a new path to find…

Humanity is a cruel and twisted race
Yet both forgiving & sympathetic
Even the angels envy our fragile states,
Oh we, in His image & likeness made….

though perhaps the greatest trait of mankind
is desiring to be so much more than we are…
In this I am certainly, oh such a human girl
wishing to be far too much to this world…

Remember, all you humans,
that life is not a guarantee,
that it is simply our chance to make a choice,
and embrace love & our humanity.

 

the perfect setting… from the other side

it was the perfect setting…
the water was shimmering glows into the trees…
it was the perfect wedding…
from my side of the lake shore I could see the whole thing…

a black haired little girl oblivious & cute,
ran along the lake, sharing horderves with the ducks,
the ribbons dancing in the wind around the pillars,
the gazebo flashing with cameras & reflections of the sun…

And there I was across the water,
sitting in a white dress on the rocky water’s edge…
trying not to stare through my sunglasses,
with a book, a towel, & popsicle in hand…

It made me think about you,
it made me think about us,
it made me think about my youngest cousin
& those ridiculous ducks….

it was the perfect setting…
would my hair also blow in the breeze?
it looked like the perfect wedding,
…even if I do wish that was you & me…

 

certainty of tears/ the glue & the nails

My heart knows certainty
when I’m crying outloud…
when i’ve given up on pretending
i’m okay, & i’m not down…

You’re soft voice always answers
‘hey, you… tell me it all?”
the words tumble all over the air
then together, we take a fall…

we fall into each other like each time before,
you remind me why i’m so very blessed,
then sweet stories & reminiscing
turn tears to laughter and happiness…

What would i do without you?
i mean really, who else can fix me like you do?
when i’m so broken & in pieces,
you know exactly where each part of me goes to…

Thank you God for bringing you into my life
rebuilt my heart like a puzzle, hundreds of times,
you’re not only the builder, but the glue & the nails
that holds me together, & makes it all right

i love you,
i miss you,
wish you weren’t far away…
i’ll wait,
we’re worth it
just take it day by day…

 

a song is not enough

I would write you a song,
but music notes
just simply can’t reach
to the depths our relationship goes …

and I would write lyrics too,
but words truly are too few
to describe what I’m trying to…
say about me & you….

and a song is only minutes,
but we’ve known each other for years,
a song can’t ring our laughter,
or echo the strength of our tears…

and it would have to go on & on & on…
stuck in our words, hearts, & minds…
and since life is not one big musical,
instead, a poem simply always seems right.

Just a short little verse that doesn’t
even pretend to scratch the surface of ‘us’…
a sort of note to prove that i truly tried,
but music isn’t enough… not for love.
